So far American Crime Story has focused on the O.J. Simpson trial and the assassination of Gianni Versace, helping give a better understanding to some of the cultural criminal investigations that have affected American history. For season 3, the FX series has decided to take a closer look at the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.
The season will be based on the book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President, written by Jeffrey Toobin. Production is slated to begin next February, with a premiere date of September 27, 2020. Beanie Feldstein will star as Monica Lewinsky, with Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp and Annaleigh Ashford as Paula Jones. At the moment there is no word on who will play Bill Clinton or his wife Hillary.
The Clinton impeachment story line idea had been floated around before, as late as 2017, but there had been no movement on it until now. They’ve also considered looking at the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina for a future season. American Crime Story has received a total of 41 Emmy nominations for the first two seasons, with 16 wins. Chairman of FX Networks John Landgraf talked about the upcoming season, stating that “Impeachment: American Crime Story will explore the overlooked dimensions of the women who found themselves caught up in the scandal and political war that cast a long shadow over the Clinton Presidency.”
